Starting from the second part of the XVI century, Cherikov became a part of the Mogilev Economy of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. From the year 1641 it had been a small town possessing the Magdeburg right. In the year 1781 it obtained an emblem.
A present-day Cherikov represents a town, directed in the future, a beautiful and well equipped, with the population of more than 8 thousand people.
The Cherikov district is an agricultural one. The industrial potential is not great: a cheese factory, a fruits canning factory, a cooperative industry combine, a woodworking combine and a forest economy.
The people of Cherikov are proud of their remarkable compatriots. The Region appears to be a homeland of Belousova E. S., Marchenko M. A., Suvorov N. I., Zarkov A. I. they are the heroes of the Socialist Labor; a homeland of writer Karamazov V. F, an outstanding sportsman O. V Ry-zhenkov, a painter A. A. Marochkin.
